More about the curve-billed thrashers:  We took 200 GB of data from tiny
nestling to leaving the nest.  This is part of the last 2 GigaBytes of data.

We were curious about how leaving-the-nest would be handled.  It looks
like mama took over the nest.  Nestling wanted to get under mama but she
resisted strongly.  Nestling is determined and fully focused on getting under
mama so when she flies off, the nestling follows!  Anyway that's how it
looks to us...  :-)

Astronomy Movie Example (Using HandyAvi and a webcam)

  Mars - 28 Aug 05           First 20 frames of a
                                    HandyAvi-cropped HandyAvi
                                    movie that was the source
of the "Start" frame of the
                                    movie to the left.

How we made the movie on the left:
We used HandyAvi to make 9 1000-frame AVI files at 30 minute intervals using a Meade 10" LX-200 telescope and a 2x Barlow lens.  Then we used RegiStax to process each of the 9 AVI movie files and create one bmp file for each AVI movie file.  We then used JASC Animation Shop 3 to create a GIF movie from the 9 bmp files.  You are looking at the GIF movie to the left above.  Note that atmospheric "seeing" conditions changed over time so that some of the 9 images are better than others.

Note that the meteor capture mode is also excellent for capturing lightning...

Customer comment regarding meteor capture:

"Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!!
I let the program run all night, and even with passing clouds there was not one false detection in the group.  I picked up many "very dim" objects passing through the clouds, with no false detections.  I believe you have hit the solution on the nose.  I am extremely happy with the results.  I believe your program is now the easiest to use, and best of the group, of the existing meteor detection programs."

Animation Video Capture Example (Using HandyAvi and a webcam)

  Living Flashlight

This animation is pretty simple but it illustrates the possibilities.

Easy to do!  We just started the Animation mode, moved the flashlight a tiny bit then clicked the HandyAvi "Capture Current Frame" button, then moved the flashlight a tiny bit then clicked the HandyAvi "Capture Current Frame" button, etc.

A good book on animation techniques is "Creating 3-D Animation" by Peter Lord and Brian Sibley and is based on Aardman Studios which produced "Chicken run" and "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" featuring Wallace and Grommet.  These movies were done using modeling clay.  Each frame of one of these movies consists of modeling clay scenes where the clay is changed slightly for each succeeding image so as to show changing facial expressions, arms moving, etc.

Some animators use modeling clay and various props.  Some use puppets.  Some use drawings.  You are limited only by your imagination.

HandyAvi gives you a good way to learn about animation and to start doing animation with an inexpensive webcam.

NEW!  IP Camera Filter Time-lapse movies  (Using HandyAvi and our new IP Camera Filter)

Our new IP Camera Filter can be used with HandyAvi to access remote web cameras to produce time-lapse and motion-detect movies.

Anchorage Alaska

Homer Alaska

The Matterhorn

Mt Redoubt Volcano, Alaska

Snow Monkeys, Japan

The filter also allow access to wireless (or wired) internet protocol cameras such as the Panasonic BL-C131 Wireless camera or the Linksys WVC54GCA Wireless camera.  You can set up these cameras around your home or office and monitor events using HandyAvi and the IP Camera Filter.
